New bicycle shelter in DLR Shadwell station
On 14 August Docklands Light Railway (DLR) arranged a 'bike breakfast' at Shadwell station to highlight its new bicycle shelter to residents and local cyclists. Over 100 attendees enjoyed a free healthy breakfast and had their bikes checked by experts from Evans Cycles.
The event is the first in a series DLR will be hosting this year. The railway will encourage more passengers to cycle to its stations via a forthcoming bicycle strategy, which will set out plans for similar facilities to be introduced across the DLR network.
David Fielder, among many other cyclists who attended the event, said 'these new facilities will make it easier for me to combine my cycle habit with DLR travel.'
* the shelter has space for 12 cycles undercover
* it has solar-powered lighting and is covered by CCTV
* both front and back wheels can be locked to the frames
* a public art installation, 'Time and Tide' by Alison Turnbull, has been fitted in the shelter
